#(10) HOFFMAN WEDDING ANNOUNCEMENT
|
|
How could married life be anything but an immense anti-climax? From tenderest childhood, little girls entertain gauzy fantasies of Prince Charming romance leading up to a brief but spectacular ceremony in which they are the center and the star. Something old, something new, something borrowed and something blue, and a silver sixpence in her shoe. That's where the story ends, with the vague but pleasant prospect: "And they lived happily ever after." From there on it all flows downhill like water. Nothing about mortgage payments or your husband's annoying personal habits that you're stuck with now that you've said, "I do." It's all Saturday night with no mention of Sunday morning. Nothing about the next Prince Charming or Cinderella who comes along, either. |
